The "saying" of Jesus that is repeated most often in the Gospels (although in slightly different wordings) is, "Whoever would save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it." Losing our lives for him does not always involve physical martyrdom. Rather, we are called from lives of selfishness to lives of service in his name. We follow Jesus.
How do we come to know him better? To love him more? How we learn to love God and to love others the way Jesus loved? There is no single answer to these questions. No simple answer. But there are Biblical teachings and historical examples that can help us to allow "Christ to be formed in us".
In spiritual formation studies, we look at persistence in prayer, meditative Bible reading, times of solitude and prayer, a simple lifestyle, journaling, hospitality, participation in corporate worship and fellowship, and other like practices.
Our hope is that we can provide Biblical resources for every adult age group at Harpeth Hills that will help us come to love God more fully and serve him more joyfully.
