The first thing you need to do is PRAY! Being a part of a mission team is a huge commitment and we want you to bring your desire to serve before the Lord. This experience can be life-changing. Then, talk to your parents about it. Each of the trips is unique and has different purposes and opportunities for you to consider. If this is something you feel God has led you to, along with your parents, then here’s what you need to do to sign-up for one of the trips:

As mentioned, each trip is different. Here is some additional information for each one.
- Thailand – This team is being led by Kent Kendrick and Jason Pagel and will be working with our missionary, Patinya Thitathan. Another female chaperone (preferably a nurse) will also be going. The group will be traveling a lot, visiting the area churches, encouraging them by teaching classes, doing work projects, playing with the children, doing outreach with the Thai teenagers, etc. The team will also travel to Laos and work with the church there. The trip is definitely an adventure.
- Honduras – This team will be led by David Sessions (our youth ministry resident) and 5 other adults per week, most of them with previous HHYG Honduras mission team experience. As we have done for the last 9 years, the team will be working with our missionary, Moises Chino in building homes, distributing food and clothing and hosting a youth rally. Many of you have asked if the trip will still take place with the political unrest that the country has experienced this year. The definitive decision will not be made till February of 2010. The election for a new president is this Sunday, November 29, and this president will take office in January. We will make a decision, based on the feedback from Moises in Honduras along with information from our U.S. embassy, following the new administration having a month in office and “all the dust to settle”. We are prayerful and hopeful that all will go smoothly as the country is so ready to move on and is in more desperate need than ever. Our plane tickets can be cancelled with no penalty by the beginning of March. So if you decide to sign-up for Honduras, know that we are proceeding in faith and doing everything we can for the trip to take place, but we cannot at this time guarantee you that it will happen.
We understand that the cost for going on a mission trip is significant. We want every teen that desires to serve to be able to. Know that we will work with you. We provide several fundraising opportunities both as a group and individually. It’s hard work, but it is doable for everyone. Please talk to us if cost is a factor and we will discuss a plan. And if Thailand or Scotland is where you really want to serve this summer, do not let the additional cost for those trips keep you from signing up. We will find ways to help you supplement. God always works it out if He is calling you to go on a mission for Him! Have your parents call or email Jennifer with further questions regarding funds (jenniferp@harpethhills.org).
Once the deadline for applications and deposits has passed (December 13), we will schedule meetings for each team to discuss further details for each trip. Parents are encouraged to come. Until then, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us. We are so excited and praying daily about what God has in store for us this summer! What a privilege it is to serve our God in this way. We hope you will be a part of it! We love you!
Because of Jesus,
