Commissioning of the 70: Preparing the Way

When I first read Luke 10:1-16 a few points stood out to me. Verse one says, “…the LORD appointed seventy others and sent them on ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to go.” These people were sent to prepare a way for Jesus. Introducing him so that when he arrived, he and his works would be known. We are also called to prepare the way for Jesus in our day and age, but Jesus tells us this path will be difficult. This cost will be difficult, but we are told in this passage to not worry about even our basic needs as we go along this path. “4Carry no moneybag, no knapsack, no sandals…” Live your life working for the kingdom and not worrying about your basic needs, because God will take care of them. When I look at verse 16 I think about the Parable of the Sower. How seeds of the Gospel will be laid in the fields of life. Some will sprout up, yet others won’t even start to grow. Some will hear the word of God and repent, but others will hear the truth and reject it. In my life I hope to prepare the way for Jesus no matter the cost.
