Acts 1:1-26
Within the first seven chapters of Acts, eleven apostles become twelve again as part of a group of one hundred and twenty…which becomes a group of three thousand…which becomes a group of five thousand men and no telling how many women and children. And by chapter eight they are just getting started. Talk about going viral. But this was not the kind of trend that is eclipsed a few days later by something else. Over two thousand years later there are estimated to be over 2 billion Christians worldwide. How does that happen? Witnesses…people who are willing to verify what they have seen and heard. But in chapter one of Acts, they aren’t telling yet. They are waiting…and praying. Because their message (and ours) is not just about what happened in front of them, or around them. Followers of Jesus, by the power of the Holy Spirit, have a message to share about what has happened to them. Believers verify what has happened in them.
