Paul was waiting for them in Athens. You might say he was “killing time” until his companions showed up. This stop was not on the docket. This place was not on the agenda. It has been said, “Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.” It seems sometimes the purpose of God is like that. Perhaps more often than we even perceive. While Paul was touring the city, he noticed an altar. Then suddenly the waiting gave way to witness as Paul addressed the Areopagus with incredible wisdom. Sometimes the “appointed times in history” are unscheduled.
