More than a DIY Project

Romans 8 – Reading/Memorizing Plan

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. – Romans 8:28

There is something gratifying about a Do-It-Yourself project. Something breaks and needs fixing, or something is worn out and needs to be redone, or maybe you just have an idea for improvement and after watching a couple of videos and making a trip to a local store you think, “I can do this.” The impulse to roll up our sleeves and set out to accomplish the task is to be applauded. Never mind the debacle with the washing machine last spring. Forget about that time when the fire department showed while you were “updating” the home alarm system. You’ve learned a lot since then and the person on YouTube made it look pretty simple. The impulse to tackle the project is to be applauded but, if we are honest, sometimes the finished product (or unfinished product) is worse than when we started.

Sometimes, despite our tenacity, we are forced to admit…we need help. It turns out that when it comes to fusing what we believe with how we live in the everyday…DIY doesn’t work out very well.
